Welcome to PSI Water, Women and Workers: Sources of life website!

The PSI World Women’s Committee has adopted a proposal to again mark International Women’s Day on March 8 and World Water Day on March 22 with the theme Water, Women, Workers: Sources of life, by running days of action between March 8 and March 22. For 2008 it was proposed that the themes of climate change and sustainable development be incorporated. It was also agreed that the campaign could include reference to the ITUC and global union proposal to focus on "decent work, decent life for women".

The main message for 2008 is:

Women and trade unions call for safe, affordable and efficient water for all.

Water is a human right for all!

Access to safe, sufficient and affordable water is essential to gender equality.

Climate change is putting the environment and water supplies at risk.

Access to Water is essential to eradicate poverty and achieve all the

Millennium Development Goals.

Publicly owned and managed water systems are the best way to protect

the right to water and the environment.

Insist that governments keep water in public hands.

Demand that water management be public.
